Lifesten Health Graduates from the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship Programme

3–4 minutes

London, September 12, 2025 — Lifesten Health is proud to announce that our Co-Founder and CEO, Ogweno Stephen, has successfully graduated from the prestigious Commonwealth Startup Fellowship Programme, held at Marlborough House, the historic headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.

This milestone marks the culmination of six months of intensive learning, innovation, and collaboration — and represents another defining chapter in Lifesten Health’s journey to transform preventive healthcare across Africa through technology and behavioral science.

A Moment of Growth and Global Recognition

For Ogweno Stephen, this achievement holds deep personal and professional significance. Having previously been a Commonwealth Master’s Scholar, his graduation from the inaugural Commonwealth Startup Fellowship cohort represents both a return to the Commonwealth family and a reaffirmation of his lifelong commitment to health innovation and impact-driven entrepreneurship.

Reflecting on the experience, Ogweno shared:

“This fellowship has been a remarkable journey of growth — both as an entrepreneur and as a health advocate. Connecting with passionate innovators from across the Commonwealth showed me how collective action and shared learning can drive meaningful impact.”

Accelerating Lifesten Health’s Mission

During the six-month fellowship, Ogweno and the Lifesten Health team focused on scaling our AI-powered preventive health platform — a digital ecosystem that empowers individuals and organizations to take charge of their health.

Through transdermal optical imaging (TOI) technology, Lifesten’s mobile app enables users to analyze key health indicators such as blood pressure, heart rate, and stress index using only their smartphone camera.

Beyond diagnostics, the app provides personalized wellness plans, gamified health challenges, and a reward-based engagement system that encourages healthy behaviors and sustained participation.

The Commonwealth Startup Fellowship offered strategic mentorship, investor connections, and technical guidance from experts at Imperial College London and the Commonwealth Secretariat — empowering Lifesten to strengthen its model and expand its footprint across East Africa and other Commonwealth countries.

A Shared Vision for Health Innovation in Africa

As the programme concluded, Ogweno reaffirmed Lifesten Health’s mission to drive social change through technology:

“Graduating from this fellowship is not the end — it’s the beginning of a stronger network and renewed purpose. Together with my fellow Commonwealth Startup Fellows, we will continue working toward solutions that improve lives, create jobs, and strengthen resilience in our communities.”

His participation across two Commonwealth initiatives — first as a scholar and now as a startup fellow — reflects the powerful link between education, innovation, and leadership in advancing global health and sustainable development.

Looking Ahead: Building Healthier Communities

At Lifesten Health, we see this achievement not only as recognition of Ogweno’s leadership but also as validation of our mission:
to make preventive health accessible, digital, and engaging for all.

As we expand our reach across Africa, this milestone reinforces our commitment to:

  • Scaling AI-powered health screening for millions of users.
  • Partnering with governments, corporations, and health organizations to deliver population-wide wellness programs.
  • Creating jobs and opportunities for digital health champions across local communities.

We are excited about the journey ahead and grateful to the Commonwealth Secretariat and Imperial College London for supporting the growth of African-led health innovations that are transforming the future of care.
